How to make a printable maze

Every press of the button creates a brand-new maze. Choose a size from small and simple to large and challenging, adjust the wall thickness, and print it or save it as an image. You can also show the solution path — handy for an answer key — and there is no sign-up or watermark.

How it works

  1. Set the Maze size slider. Small mazes suit young children; the largest sizes are a real challenge.
  2. Adjust Wall thickness so lines print clearly.
  3. Press Generate New Maze until you like the layout.
  4. Tick Show solution to display the path for an answer key.
  5. Press Print or Save PNG.

Tips for solving — and for setting — mazes

  • Solve backwards. Starting at the exit is often faster, because dead ends near the finish are easier to spot.
  • Thicker walls for younger kids. Bold lines are easier to follow with a pencil and easier to see on a photocopy.
  • Print the solution separately. Generate a maze, print it, then turn on Show solution and print again for your key.

Ways to use it

Fine-motor practice

Tracing a path without touching the walls builds pencil control for young children.

Road trips and restaurants

Print a few at different sizes before you leave.

Planning skills

Mazes encourage looking ahead and correcting course — useful practice in planning.
